Cut Vinyl
Using cut
vinyls is
certainly the most popular and cost effective means of
lettering. A vinyl plotter is used to cut cast vinyls
into the letter shapes which are then applied to the
van, sheet of foamed PVC, glass, banner. This gives a
professional and modern look to sing writing. Vinyls can
only be cut into shapes therefore there is a minimal
size restriction. In practice it is around 8mm high for
a single letter considering simple font. If a client
requires intricate artwork then printed media should be
used.
Although the vinyl cut signs are limited to its size and
complexity of a graphic it pays back by its durability
and outdoor lifetime. Resistant against scratching, for
instance when exposed in automated car-wash. Vinyls also
have reasonably high UV stability what means in practice
that the colour will not fade away for many years and
especially formulated acrylic adhesive makes it fully
resistant to the weather conditions.

Wide format prints
Printed media
is a sector of this industry that is beginning to grow
rapidly. It involves using large format full colour
printers to print the design onto banners and sheets of white or
transparent vinyl that are then applied to the van or
board in one piece.
This technique gives the flexibility of producing,
basically any graphic, at any size with photo-quality
print. This technology involves pigment or solvent based
inks that are resistant to UV rays and weather
conditions only for a certain period of time therefore
lamination is required for prints which will last up to
5-7 years. This drawback creates extra costs to
manufacture the final product which sometimes may be
even as twice much more expensive than the cut vinyls.
